If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?
To be honest, I don’t really have a character I want to be, so much as a character time. To be a character in a film/book is too limiting as you are just having their life and their adventures. To me that’s less fun than having my own adventures and making my own decisions in similar circumstances if that makes sense. Maybe being existing characters in earlier or later adventures would be fun, but I would want to be me with the right qualities, capabilities and opportunities rather than be them.
The sort of characters that I always like are the rogue adventurers in fantasy/medieval worlds who live by a flourishing sword and sharp wits. Some of my favorites are Katherine Talbert in The Privilege of the Sword and (gender switching) Andea Orsini (Prince of Foxes) and the protagonist in Scaramouche (I forget his name). Although all of these three start off from very different perspectives and personalities, they grow as people and in self confidence/capability i guess that’s part of the attraction for me. I think it must be wonderful to have that trust in your own abilities and move beyond self doubt. Plus it must be pretty awesome to be able to fence in a life or death situation like a pro!!!
